Reading
Why Reading is Important
Reading not only helps expand their life experiences but also introduces them to the world outside. As students immerse themselves in a book's storyline, they learn to empathize with the characters' feelings, understand different perspectives, and build a strong foundation for healthy interpersonal relationships.
Our school also believes that both physical and digital reading can stimulate students' minds, enhance their language skills, and build a solid foundation for learning all subjects. Through diverse forms of reading, we hope to guide students to explore actively, think independently, and become lifelong learners.
Reading is crucial for your student's growth. Extensive reading can effectively improve language abilities, which are the basis for learning other subjects. Furthermore, reading trains a student's critical thinking skills, enabling them to make independent judgments and solve problems. Most importantly, through reading, students can develop empathy and build healthy relationships, which are invaluable assets for life.

Reading PERCCI Badge Collection: Our school launched the Reading PERCCI programme over four years ago, which promotes our six core values and significantly enhances students' interest and motivation in reading. As a result, the annual reading volume of our students has reached nearly 50,000 books per year.
-
Reading Across The Curriculum (R.A.C.) Scheme: Our school is dedicated to cultivating students' reading interests and habits while enhancing their reading proficiency and depth. This school-wide reading initiative, jointly promoted and monitored through collaboration between the library and subject departments, integrates lessons with cross-curricular activities. It encourages students to explore diverse thematic categories and genres of literature, thereby elevating their reading comprehension and analytical depth.
-
Reading Challenge: Our school's "Reading Challenge" is a school-based reading award program designed to motivate students and celebrate their reading achievements. Building on the success of our "Reading PERCCI" program, we have developed a tiered system that recognizes students' annual borrowing volume. Each month, we track the number of books students borrow, encouraging them to challenge themselves to reach higher reading levels.
-
Reading Hour Challenge of e-Reading: To adapt to the digital era and expand our students' literary horizons, we have introduced the Reading Hour Challenge of e-Reading. This program encourages students to log dedicated hours reading electronic books and digital materials. By tracking the time spent reading rather than just the number of books, this initiative fosters sustained focus, builds digital literacy, and ensures students are comfortable navigating modern reading platforms.
-
Annual Reading Award Scheme: Serving as the grand culmination of our reading initiatives, the Annual Reading Award Scheme celebrates and recognizes students based on the total number of books they have read throughout the entire academic year. By honoring their cumulative reading milestones across both physical and digital formats, this overarching scheme motivates students to consistently engage with literature and rewards their outstanding dedication to lifelong reading.

Reading Events
Our reading events are designed to make reading interactive, memorable, and enjoyable for every student.
-
-
Reading Day (Book Character Day): This is one of the signature events in our school.
Everyone, including students and teachers, will dress up as a character from a book on Reading Day. A series of reading activities will be held on that day: reading games, a creative writing event, a catwalk show, and a prize presentation. We share our favorite books with others.
-
Battle of the Books: A list of Chinese and English books will be selected for students every year. After reading the books, a competition will be held. In the competition, all the questions are related to the books. The class that scores the highest marks will be the champion of the battle for that year and that grade.
-
Immersive Reading: Our school's reading team is dedicated to promoting "Immersive Reading." Our teachers have designed unique, school-based materials and interactive activities that take reading beyond the pages of a book. Students can step into a virtual space, transcending the limits of time and geography to fully immerse themselves in the world of reading. This innovative teaching model not only successfully ignites students' interest but also allows them to enjoy the fun of reading through interaction, laying a solid foundation for their future learning.
-
Blind Book Date: Through the mysterious reading activity called "Blind Book Date," we have attracted students to participate and encouraged them to read books of various themes. This activity aims to expand students' reading horizons and cultivate diverse reading habits.
-
Thematic Reading Workshop: By organizing thematic reading activities such as storytelling workshops and insect observation labs, students are engaged in extensive and in-depth reading based on specific themes.
