Primary Humanities(G1-2, G4-5)/ Liberal Arts(G3, G6)

Curriculum Objectives

Primary Humanities (G1-2, G4-5) enable students to:

  • Develop in a healthy and well-balanced manner, cultivate positive values and attitudes from an early age, and become confident, rational and responsible citizens;
  • Understand their roles and responsibilities in the family and society; respect the rule of law and uphold a law-abiding spirit; and contribute to the common good of society and the country;
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of the country’s history, geography, Chinese culture and contemporary development; cultivate a sense of national identity and belonging; and aspire to contribute to the country and the world;
  • Be concerned about developments at the local, national and global levels, and understand their interconnections; care for and protect the environment through education for sustainable development; and practise a green lifestyle.

Liberal Arts (G3, G6) is a school-based subject:

The School Motto “Passionate to Learn, with Confidence; Determined to Succeed, with Vision”together with the lyrics of the School Song, outlines most of the objectives of this curriculum. They set out the qualities that we hope students will possess upon completion of the curriculum. At the level of beliefs, the focus is on“Faith, Hope and Love”. At the level of values, the focus is on“Kindness, Justice, Courtesy, Wisdom and Faith”. At the level of attitudes, the focus is on“Diligence, Integrity, Filial Piety, Perseverance and Innovation”. At the level of conduct, the focus is on“Innocence, Simplicity, Moral Virtue and Observance of Rules”.

Curriculum Content

The Humanities curriculum comprises six learning strands: “Health and Living”, “Environment and Living”, “Financial Management and Economy”, “Community and Citizenship”, “Our Country and Me”, and “The World and Me”. Through learning in these areas, students construct knowledge, apply what they have learnt in the learning process, and develop relevant skills. From an early age, they develop healthy lifestyles, positive values and attitudes, and promote their personal and interpersonal development. Ultimately, they become confident, discerning and responsible individuals who contribute to the well-being of their families, communities, the country and the world.

The Liberal Arts curriculum adopts an open and flexible curriculum framework. Through the following four areas, it builds subject knowledge and develops generic skills, enabling students to establish strong beliefs, positive values, positive attitudes and responsible behaviour. Its learning scope includes “Personal Growth”, “Chinese and World Cultures”, “Hong Kong Development”, and “Global Perspectives”.

Teaching Strategy

  • Develop students’ thinking skills and guide them to progressively master the use of thinking tools, thereby enhancing their generic skills.
  • Provide experiential learning opportunities that arouse students’ curiosity about things around them and encourage them to explore issues from different perspectives.
  • Adopt a project-based learning approach to guide students towards active learning, enabling them to search for information through different channels and develop an in-depth understanding of the topics concerned.
  • Foster students’ capacity to learn how to learn through different modes of assignments, moving beyond the traditional textbook-centred approach to learning and broadening their knowledge base.
