At HKBUAS, we are incredibly proud to spotlight one of our own, Ho Lam Cheung (Class of 2025), who is currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering at Germany’s top-ranked university, the Technical University of Munich!

Ho Lam holds a special place in our history as part of the first batch of students to study our Modern Language Programme when it launched in Middle School (Grade 5–8) back in 2017. After completing Grade 9, he made the bold decision to step out of his comfort zone and study in German. He successfully passed his language requirements and is now studying tuition-free at university, a truly remarkable achievement that speaks to his hard work.

Inspiring the Next Generation
On 6 October 2026, Ho Lam returned to share his life studying in Germany with our Grade 6 students. When one student asked if studying in Germany is difficult, his answer was refreshingly honest:

"If I said no, then I would be lying. Yes, it's not easy, but it's rewarding. I need to know my limitations, like my German. In university, I sometimes get marks deducted because of the language, but I will try harder to be the top of the top."

So how does he push through? Ho Lam attributes his resilience to self-discipline and focus—he makes sure to turn off all devices when studying. But his biggest motivation? Not disappointing his parents.

CAS at Schule Schloss Salem
Before university, Ho Lam attended the most prestigious and famous boarding school in Germany, Schule Schloss Salem. The school was founded by Kurt Hahn, a legendary educator who was also an architect of the nascent International Baccalaureate (IB), alongside Prince Max von Baden, the last Chancellor of the German Empire.

Attending a boarding school far, far away from home could be challenging, but Ho Lam embraced the experience. He fully immersed himself in CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service)—rehearsing with the school orchestra, playing badminton, and volunteering for environmental and nature protection projects.
Ho Lam intends to stay and work in Germany after graduation. We admire his bravery to leave his comfort zone and pursue his goals on a global stage. Keep shining, Ho Lam! 🚀

Grade 6 Students’ Reflections on Ho Lam’s Sharing:

It encourages me to explore the world, try new cultures, and look forward to my own future journey!” Grade 6 Shum Hiu Tung

“At today’s lunchtime talk, I was honored to hear our graduate, Ho Lam, discuss his life in Germany. Discovering more about Germany was incredibly eye-opening, and hearing his story has genuinely empowered and motivated me to embark on the journey of learning a third language.” Grade 6 Lau Cheuk Wing
