Reading Promotion
Reading to Learn
Extensive reading broadens horizons and enriches life experience. The school library and the Reading Affairs Team promote a reading culture through book-sharing sessions, competitions, book fairs, and exhibitions across the curriculum, so students read to know themselves and understand the world around them. Periodic e-newsletters keep students updated and help them build a reading habit.
To support the shift towards digital reading, the library has been modernised with a self-check machine, a book steriliser, and e-reading platforms. School Joy Read Club (SJRC) and the ePlatform promote Chinese and English reading, so students can read beyond the library shelves.
Library prefects are responsible for borrowing, returning, shelving and registration. With their help, the library aims to offer a comfortable reading environment and a reliable service, and to build a student-led reading culture.
Each year the school holds a Literary Festival. Booths are set up around the theme of the year, and students move through talks, displays and hands-on activities that take them beyond their usual reading. The festival is meant to widen their horizons, deepen their understanding of different cultures, and leave them with books, ideas, and questions they would not otherwise have encountered.
